DIY Electric Skateboard Singapore

Lo & behold! My Electric Skateboard! (For now :p)

So, I made an electric skateboard. With bolts & nuts & duct tape.

I blame this guy for making me want one.

It all began when I bought this really cheap Escooter (120SGD). Originally my plan was to use it to commute to work (15mins walk away), its already dreadful to wake up in the mornings, the walk to work just add insult.

what was left of the escooter

Besides it was not that expensive... unfortunately, it barely had enough power to carry me anywhere (unless if I was 7 years old).

felt & looked like this

Not giving up, I browsed online for hacks & mods to see how I can make my situation better (without spending a leg or 2).

Then I saw this video on youtube.

dont do it.. really

It seemed like a good idea at that time, so I tried to make one.

and i did!

But it still lacked power and the handling on it was like trying to balance on a tight rope..

Got some new trucks and remount it to the edge for better balance. Was quite easy to skate this way.

New wheels & old electronics from the escooter.

and finally, version 1.0

Had better balance and it actually was able to get me from point A to B (unless if there was an incline). What I learnt from this build was, wired control is not a good idea. When you fall off the board, you tend to grip on the controller with your life, then pull all the cables out of the ESC (electronic speed controller/the thingii where all the wires connect to). Also mounting the motor & drive is the hardest thing when you DIY an Electric Skateboard.. Also lacking brakes!

While it did work, it just lacked the fun factor..

This is where my googling brought me to,

                                                           endless-sphere forums

That's like the mecca for mobility electronics and whatnots, it would be prudent to browse through that forum before you decide to embark on your quest for your very own electric skateboard.

Didn't realise I've spent so much!

But to compare with pre-made boards,

The reason I picked that ESC was because it had regen braking. One of the few esc out there for DC motors. If you know more let me know!

Why DC motor? They look like they can take a beating and there's plenty of them in Singapore from those Ebike shops.

Fit them all together & tape it all up!

Final Eboard Ver 1.1

Will upload a video when I can find the time.. and someone to lend me their gopro cam

Note to self for Ver 1.2

- Upgrade Lipo Batt to 6s
- Pneumatic wheels
- Smaller sprocket
- Aluminium Frame

Archer (TV-Series)

New take on the Green Arrow from Smallville. If your like me, and suffering from withdrawal of Smallville, this series is worth the time. I felt it had a similar feel to the recent Batman movies, very dark, very delightful :)

I'm giving it 3 out 5.

My First Post!

I would like to dedicate my first post to a friend of mine.

His name was Elliot.

He's resting eternally now.

First time I met him was when I was 19ish, at Cyberian City ( old Internet cafe that opens 24/7 ) and Jeremy introduced me to him. "Sop that's Darklancer" little did I know that his name was Elliot, I couldnt stop laughing for a while =) just thought he didn't look like an "Elliot".

I remember when I finished my last ship and needed help to DIY a computer, he was there to help me out, if I'm not wrong Marcus was there too. That was my very first Desktop Computer! its almost 8 years old!! 3 days later he help me clean up them viruses and gave me a long lecture on how to keep my computer virus free and "properly" surf the net =p

He gave me a lot of lectures... lol

Elliot was utterly unique. An excellent friend. Responsible. Generous. Kind. Elliot was not stingy with his love. He told us, and he showed us. He gave and gave and gave. Each of us knows how blessed we were to share a few moments on this earth with him.

Although what we've lost is tremendous, what he gave us is immeasurable.

To those who knew him, no explanation is necessary... To those who didn't, no explanation is possible...

RIP bro.
